CONGRATULATIONS to the 80th Birthday of Prof. Dr.Dr.h.c. Felix Unger
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Felix Unger is one of the most important personalities
in the European scientific community. As an internationally renowned heart surgeon, Prof. Unger was entrusted with establishing cardiac surgery in Salzburg on 1 March 1985 and headed the University Clinic for Cardiac Surgery at Paracelsus Medical University until 31 March 2011. Over 20,000 patients were operated on there, a spectacular achievement was accomplished in March 1986, when the first clinical artificial heart replacement in Europe was performed, followed by transplantation.
FOUNDING of EASA in 1990
In 1990, Prof. Unger founded the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg, together with the Archbishop of Vienna, Franz Cardinal König, and the political scientist and philosopher Nikolaus Lobkowicz.
As long-standing president of 30 years of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA), he has built bridges between disciplines, religions and nations. His work stands for a science that combines humanity and responsibility – with a clear European spirit that puts people at the centre.
