Marios Joannou Elia elected as an Ordinary Member in the field of Music Composition

On 22 October 2025, the Plenary Assembly of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts elected Marios Joannou Elia (design.Vice-Dean of class III) as an Ordinary Member in the field of Music Composition. This distinction acknowledges his wide-ranging compositional oeuvre, which includes symphonies, choral works, ceremonial compositions and multimedia productions performed internationally by leading orchestras and choirs such as the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg, the European Youth Orchestra and the National Chinese Orchestra.

Elia is the only artist to have received both the Gold Medal of the Republic of Cyprus (2024) and the Music Prize of the Academy of Athens (2022).
