On the 12th and 13th of October, the 2025 International Conference of Sport History and Culture took place in Qufu, China — the town where Confucius had been born, hosted by the Asian Journal of Sport History & Culture, the Qufu Normal University, the Asia-Pacific Association of Sport Studies and Routledge. Experts from China and outside of the Country discussed questions of Sports and International Relations. The event aimed as well on support of young scholars — not least the current international situation shows the importance of using all means that contribute to peace.
While sports is about competition, the guiding idea also of the conference can be summarised in the words of Confucius:
Confucius said: "The Superior Man has nothing to compete for. But if he must compete, he does it in an archery match, wherein he ascends to his position, bowing in deference. Descending, he drinks the ritual cup. This is the competition of the Superior Man.
Fan Hong and Peter Herrmann, members of the European Academy of Science and Arts had been invited and contributed with keynote speeches. On this occasion, Peter Herrmann had been appointed as visiting professor at the Center for Digital Intelligence Research of Excellent Traditional Sports Culture.
