ANTHROPOCENE AND CLIMATE CHANGE

At 28th January 2021, our honorable member, the Nobel Prize Laureate for Chemistry Paul Crutzen (1933-2021), passed away. Paul Crutzen was not only a distinguished natural scientist who explained the chemical-physical foundations of the ozon hole, but who engaged for the problems of the anthropocene and climate change. At that meeting, we will consider the scientific legacy of Paul Crutzen as well as its challenges for economy, politics, and ethics. The thematic scope of this interdisciplinary conference goes across the topics of natural sciences, economics, politics, and ethics in the different classes of our Academy. Therefore, the Academy intends to award a Paul Crutzen medal for merits with respect to the responsibilty of mankind for climate and environment and practical applications annually at the Festive Plenary in Salzburg.
